Each year, Cook’s Bay hosts an artist-in-residence for a stay, so they can share their perspective and expertise with our guests. It’s a new way to experience the hotel—one that blends creativity, the sharing of knowledge, and mindfulness of the present moment.

Jared Boechler, our first artist-in-residence

From March 2 to 12, 2027, we will be hosting Jared Boechler, a Canadian painter whose work has been exhibited in New York, Asia, and Europe. His paintings, often paired with custom-created scents, explore how a place, a light, or a scent can be transformed into a canvas.

During his stay in Moorea, Jared will offer four oil painting workshops open to our guests, in small groups of up to ten people, with no skill level or age requirements.

Painting Your Own View of Moorea

Each workshop begins with a short lesson—just enough time to get settled—before giving way to free painting: indoors or outdoors depending on the weather, with the landscape as a view or using photographs as a reference, everyone interprets Moorea in their own way. It’s an experience that naturally aligns with the spirit of the place: observation, a slow pace, and a focus on the present moment.

Each participant takes home their own canvas, along with a short guide offering tips on how to continue painting after their stay.

A residence, not just a studio

In addition to the classes, Jared’s ten-day stay at the hotel will result in a series of art cards, featuring his artwork, which will be displayed throughout the hotel’s guest rooms and common areas—a way to extend his presence long after he leaves.
